Miking Techniques
Cello
The frequency range of a cello is between 56 Hz to harmonics
of 8000 Hz. Usually, a high quality condenser mic with as
flat a frequency curve as possible is used. The mic placement
is somewhere between 6 inches and 3 feet, with the mic pointed
towards the f-holes. The closer the mic placement, the more
bowing noise is picked up. A farther mic placement produces
a warmer, less defined sound.
